Split-Step Preparation
Time a small ready movement before an incoming ball.
What you will learn
Time a small ready movement before an incoming ball. This TRAINOVIX lesson shows a simple setup, a specific practice action and a way to notice your progress without rushing.
Practice step by step
- Make sure the court is clear and everyone has room for racket swings.
- Stand balanced with a racket and a partner feeding slowly.
- Make a gentle two-foot hop or weight shift as the ball leaves the partner's racket.
- Land ready to move toward either side.
- Repeat a few slow feeds before attempting a more demanding variation.
Coaching tips
- Keep the movement small and comfortable.
- Comfortable timing is more important than swinging harder.
How to progress
Start with the simplest version of the activity. Give yourself enough time to learn the movement, ask for feedback when useful, and choose a more challenging variation only when your practice feels comfortable and controlled.
