Protective Dribble
Keep control when a defender is nearby.
What you will learn
Keep control when a defender is nearby. This TRAINOVIX lesson shows a simple setup, a specific practice action and a way to notice your progress without rushing.
Practice step by step
- Prepare on a dry, uncluttered court and start at a comfortable pace.
- Start at walking pace with the ball beside your body.
- Bend comfortably, use your outside hand to dribble and keep your body between the ball and an imaginary defender.
- Switch hands and notice which side is more comfortable.
- Practise a few calm repetitions and gradually vary the angle only when ready.
Coaching tips
- Begin without live defensive pressure.
- Keep control and awareness of other players on the court.
How to progress
Start with the simplest version of the activity. Give yourself enough time to learn the movement, ask for feedback when useful, and choose a more challenging variation only when your practice feels comfortable and controlled.
