Defensive Slide Footwork
Move sideways while keeping balance.
What you will learn
Move sideways while keeping balance. This TRAINOVIX lesson shows a simple setup, a specific practice action and a way to notice your progress without rushing.
Practice step by step
- Prepare on a dry, uncluttered court and start at a comfortable pace.
- Mark two spots a few steps apart on a flat court.
- Bend your knees comfortably and slide from spot to spot without crossing your feet.
- Keep your torso steady and stay in control at each stop.
- Practise a few calm repetitions and gradually vary the angle only when ready.
Coaching tips
- Footwork comes before quickness.
- Keep control and awareness of other players on the court.
How to progress
Start with the simplest version of the activity. Give yourself enough time to learn the movement, ask for feedback when useful, and choose a more challenging variation only when your practice feels comfortable and controlled.
