About this lesson

Close control makes it easier to change direction while keeping the ball available for the next touch. Practise little touches with the inside and outside of each foot and leave yourself enough space to move safely. Begin at walking pace, look up between touches, and increase your pace when the ball stays close without constant chasing.

Practise in a safe space at a pace that feels comfortable, and ask a coach or teacher for help when needed.

How to practise dribbling close control

  1. Start with the ball close to one foot.
  2. Use small touches with the inside and outside of both feet.
  3. Keep the ball close enough to touch again within one or two steps.
  4. Look up between touches so you can see space and other players.
  5. Add speed only after you can keep the ball under control.
